Hot 热的，比如说，Summer is hot.

回到绘本，Pot 是什么意思呢？

这里的 Pot 是怎么样的 Pot 呢？

A pot is a deep round container used for cooking things in.

也就是 “锅子” 的意思。

A pot is a container made of glass, clay or plastic, used for storing food in.

也就是 “(装东西的) 罐子” 的意思

A pot is a container of various kinds, made for a particular purpose.

也可以用作就 (某种用途的) 容器。

比如说：

a coffee pot 咖啡壶

a pepper pot 胡椒瓶

a teapot 茶壶

So，What type of pot is it?

Let's see the front cover together.

What is Mum holding?

She is holding a pot.

I think the pot here is a deep round container used for cooking things in.

Why would the pot be hot?

It's very hot because Mum just cooked some yummy food in it.

Look at Mum's gloves for cooking.

It must be hot.

What do you think could be in the pot?

Just wait and see.

Buttom put his tongue out.

He is waiting too.

对了，再补充一点，

hot pot，其实还有个专门的意思，就是娜塔莉最爱吃的 “火锅”，

但要注意的是哦，“Hot Pot”，这两个词是分开的。

但如果在国外吃饭时，你在菜单上写了 “Hotpot”，就一个空格之差，那么服务员端上来的绝对不是你认为的火锅，而是一份连锅的土豆洋葱炖肉，和我们平常吃的大杂烩差不多，如果怕搞错，你可以说 chaffy dish。I had chaffy dish for supper last night. 娜塔莉昨天晚上吃了 火锅。飘雪的冬天吃 chaffy dish，真是 Yummy！Yummy！

激动了激动了 ，让我们再次回到绘本，

Look，what is Lin holding?

A balloon.

A red balloon.

So, What do you think will happen in this story?

Let's open the book and turn to page 1.

Lin, Lee and Kipper had a balloon.

They played with it.

One, two, three, catch!

It's coming.

Lin hit it to Lee.

phew... The balloon was flying to Lee.

Lin、Lee 和 Kipper 有一个气球。

Lin 把它传给了 Lee。

What was Mum doing?

She was cooking.

She was holding a pot.

It was very hot.

"Dumplings for dinner," said Mum.

妈妈说：晚饭吃饺子。

What's in the pot?

I think they were Dumplings.

什么是 Dumpling 呢？

Dumpling 饺子，馄饨，汤圆，这些在国外都称作 Dumpling。

在老外眼里，只要是 “面皮包着馅儿” 的，都叫 Dumpling。

但其实并不准确，饺子的英文其实是：Jiaozi

哈哈，你没听错，是 Jiaozi，

因为中国的美食太出名，渐渐的这些特色菜，都以拼音命名了。

如果老外听不懂，可以解释说：Chinese dumplings

我们举个例子：

The forigners are wondering whether Chinese people eat Jiaozi during every festival.

老外发出灵魂拷问，中国人过节都要吃饺子吗？

这些美食你知道怎么说吗？

水饺：boiled dumplings

蒸饺：steamed dumplings

馄饨：wonton

烧麦：siew mai

Ok，回到绘本

Lin fell and hit her chin.

Lin 摔倒了，撞到了她的下巴。

说到 chin，让我想到一句很经典的台词，

故事三只小猪--《Three little pigs》里，狼来敲门时的对话，出现了3次，狼和小猪的对话是：

The wolf said, "Little pig, little pig, let me come in."

To which the pig answered, "No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin."

by the hair of my chiny chin chin

That means I don't have any hair on my chin.

我的下巴没有长头发。

哈哈，这是比较诙谐的说法啦。

意思是：不，那是不可能的事。（我不会开门的。）

你学会了吗？

Lin fell and hit her chin.

So，

Mum put the hot pot down.

She ran to pick Lin up.

妈妈放下了滚烫的锅子。

她跑去扶起 Lin。

It hurts.

Lin was crying.

好痛，Lin 大哭了起来。

"Are you all right?" said Mum.

妈妈说：还好吗？

Lin was all right.

Lin 没有什么大碍。

Kipper and Lee was sorry.

The hot, wet pot had made a mark on the desk.

这个很烫的、又很湿的锅子，把桌子弄出一个印子。

mark 就是 “记号、印记”

我们平时说的记号笔，就是 marker 马克笔/记号笔

Why does the pot make a mark on Lin's desk?

Because it is hot and the bottom is wet.

It damages the wooden desk.

Biff and Chip had been to the park with Grandpa Chen.

"Look at my dest!" said Lin.

"Will it rub off?" said Kipper.

Biff、Chip 刚和陈爷爷一起从公园回来。

Lin 说：看我的桌子。

Kipper 说：擦的掉吗？

这里要解释的一个地方就是【had been to】。

【had been to】refer to a place which someone had visited at some time.

It indicate that the person had returned.

【had been to】指的是某人在某个时刻去往某地。

而且它经常是指那个已经回来了，或者已经不在那儿了。

Biff and Chip had been to the park with Grandpa Chen.

Biff、Chip 刚和陈爷爷一起，从公园回来。

Would it rub off?

No, it wouldn't.

"I cannot rub it off," said Grandpa.

爷爷说：我擦不掉。

How do you think Lin is feeling and why?

Lin was upset.

Lin 很难过。

Because her desk is damaged by the hot pot.

But, Chip had a plan.

"It will be a surprise for Lin," he said.

Chip 有个计划。

他说：我会给 Lin 一个惊喜。

What's the surprise?

Grandpa took the desk to his flat.

"We need paint," said Chip.

爷爷把桌子抬到他的房间里。

Chip 说：我们需要颜料。

flat 就是 “一套房间”

Lin 和 Lee 他们一家住在 Room 2703

而爷爷呢，住在 Room 2704

在中国，或者说在上海很多见，

和爷爷奶奶，或者外公外婆，一锅粥的距离。

很中国哦！

放在国外，很有可能是住在2个州呢~

What will Chip do for Lin?

"Lin cannot see it yet," said Chip.

Chip 说：Lin 还不能看哦。

He called Lin.

"This is the surprise," said Chip.

"You can see it now."

Chip 说：这是个惊喜。

"现在可以看了。"

Surprise!!!

What was the surprise?

Chip had painted them all.

"And Button and Floppy, too!" said Lin.

Chip 把他们都画在了上面。

Lin 说：连 Button 和 Floppy 也在呢！

Was Lin pleased with her desk?

"This is the best surprise ever!" said Lin.
